At first glance you might think, due to those small eyes, the entire flock must have flown face-first into the side of some great cliff, the way the tips of those beaks bend down so abruptly. But take a closer look, here on this page and out in the wild, and you will also see they are quite beautiful.
So far three flamingos have found their way to Other Cool Birds and they share a lot in common with each other, yet are each rather unique.
One by “contemporary allegorical realist painter,” Kevin Sloan, was created using acrylic on canvas; another by picture book author and illustrator, Molly Idle, was created using colored pencils; while the third by digital conceptual artist, Gediminas Pranckevicius, was done using Photoshop.
Each is striking and each has its own interesting personality, yet all three were created using very different methods.
Molly Idle’s flamingo (and the flamingo’s adorable friend Flora) landed on March 30th. To read more about Molly and her work, click here.
